Domain Renewal Cost Calculator

Total cost over 1 to 10 years, per registrar.

How it works

What a domain really costs over 1 to 10 years

The first-year price is the headline; the renewal price is what you pay for the rest of the domain's life. This calculator pulls MailShrine's live register and renewal prices for your extension, lays out every year from 1 to 10, and totals the term. Pick an assumed yearly price rise to see how much locking in a multi-year registration today protects you against registry increases. Prices are live and in USD; there are no hidden fees.

How this works

  1. 1

    Fetch live prices

We read MailShrine's current register, renewal and transfer price for your extension from the same API the checkout uses.

  2. 2

    Build the year table

Year 1 uses the registration price; years 2 onward use the renewal price, optionally inflated by the yearly rise you picked.

  3. 3

    Compare lock vs yearly

The locked total is simply register plus renewals at today's price; the saving is the difference against paying one year at a time with rises.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the renewal price higher than the first year?
Registrars often discount the first year to win the customer and recover the margin on renewals. The renewal price is the real long-term cost of the domain, so always compare registrars on renewal, not on the first-year banner.
Does registering for 10 years really save money?
It fixes today's renewal price for the whole term, which matters when the registry raises wholesale prices (Verisign may raise .com by up to 7% a year in most years). It also removes nine chances to forget a renewal. The trade-off is paying cash now for years you might not need.
Are there hidden fees on top of these prices?
No. MailShrine's prices include the ICANN fee where applicable, DNS hosting and WHOIS privacy where the registry allows it. The only separate costs are optional mailboxes and any premium pricing a registry attaches to a specific name.
Can I renew a domain early?
Yes. Renewing adds years to your current expiry date, so you lose nothing by renewing early, as long as the total registration period stays within the 10-year maximum set by ICANN.
How does the calculator handle promo prices?
If the extension is on promotion, year 1 uses the promo price and we show the regular price next to it. Years 2 to 10 always use the normal renewal price, because promos never apply to renewals.

Every MailShrine domain includes WHOIS privacy, transfer lock, Anycast DNS with DNSSEC and two business mailboxes.
