.ng WHOIS Lookup
Registry data for .ng names.
How it works
.ng WHOIS lookup: registrar, dates, status and nameservers
Look up any .ng, .com.ng, .org.ng or other NiRA name. We query NiRA's RDAP service (the structured successor to WHOIS, reached through the IANA bootstrap at rdap.org) for the registrar, registration and expiry dates, EPP status codes and nameservers, and explain what each status means. Because NiRA's RDAP is sometimes offline, we also read the live DNS and confirm registration through our registry connection, so you always get an answer.
Results appear here after you click Look up .ng record.
How this works
- 1
Query NiRA RDAP
rdap.org bootstraps the request to NiRA's RDAP server at rdap.nic.net.ng, which returns registrar, dates, status codes and nameservers.
- 2
Read the live DNS
NS, A, MX and SOA records are fetched over DNS-over-HTTPS to show whether the name resolves and receives email.
- 3
Confirm with the registry
Our registrar connection checks availability live, so you get an answer even when NiRA's RDAP is down.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I check who owns a .ng or .com.ng domain?
- Look it up here. NiRA publishes the registrar, registration and expiry dates, status and nameservers through RDAP, but redacts the registrant's name and email. To contact the owner, use the website itself or the registrar's contact form; the registrar can forward a message.
- What is RDAP and why not WHOIS?
- RDAP is the structured, HTTPS-based replacement for the old port-43 WHOIS protocol. It returns the same facts as JSON with consistent field names and privacy rules. NiRA runs an RDAP server at rdap.nic.net.ng, which rdap.org discovers through the IANA bootstrap registry.
- What does clientTransferProhibited mean on a .ng domain?
- It is the transfer lock, set by your registrar to stop unauthorised moves. You must disable it in your registrar's client area before an auth code will work; after the transfer the new registrar normally turns it back on.
- Why does the lookup say the record is unavailable?
- NiRA's RDAP service is frequently offline, in which case rdap.org returns a 404 even for registered names. We still check the live DNS and our registry connection, so you learn whether the name is registered; registrar and expiry details return when NiRA's server is back.
- When does an expired .ng domain become available again?
- After the expiry date the name passes through an auto-renew grace period, then redemption, then pending delete, which together take several weeks. The current owner can restore it until pending delete. Watch the status here; once it drops, this tool will show it as not registered.
Every MailShrine domain includes WHOIS privacy, transfer lock, Anycast DNS with DNSSEC and two business mailboxes.
