IP Address Location Lookup
Country, region and network for an IP.
How it works
Where is this IP address registered, and who runs it?
Paste an IPv4 or IPv6 address (or a domain and we resolve it) to see the country the block is registered in, the organisation and ASN that operate it, which regional registry allocated it and its reverse DNS name. The data comes live from the registries' RDAP services rather than a commercial geolocation database, so it tells you the registered country of the network, which is accurate for hosting and ISP ranges but is not a street-level fix on a device.
Results appear here after you click Locate IP.
How this works
- 1
Resolve if needed
A domain is turned into its first A or AAAA address; an IP is validated and checked for private ranges.
- 2
Query the registry
The address is looked up in the regional internet registry's RDAP service for owner, ASN, network and country.
- 3
Classify the network
Owner and reverse-DNS patterns reveal whether it is a cloud range, CDN edge or consumer ISP.
Frequently asked questions
- How accurate is IP geolocation?
- Country-level data from the registries is reliable for ISP and hosting ranges because it comes from the allocation record itself. City-level or street-level accuracy is not possible from public data; commercial databases estimate it from latency and user signals and are frequently wrong, especially for mobile and VPN addresses.
- Why does a US company's site show a different country?
- Because the location is that of the server or CDN block, not the business. Sites behind Cloudflare, AWS or Google show the provider's registration, which may be the Netherlands, Ireland or the United States regardless of where the company operates.
- What is an ASN?
- An Autonomous System Number identifies a network that announces IP routes on the internet, such as AS13335 for Cloudflare or AS15169 for Google. It is the most reliable way to identify the operator of an address, since the same ASN covers all of their blocks.
- Can I find a person from their IP address?
- No. Public registry data identifies the network operator and the country, never a subscriber. Only the ISP can link an address to a customer, and they do so only under legal process. Treat IP location as 'which network and roughly which country'.
- Where does this data come from?
- From RDAP, the standard query service run by ARIN, RIPE NCC, APNIC, LACNIC and AFRINIC, who allocate all IP space. We also fetch the reverse DNS name via Cloudflare's resolver. No third-party geolocation vendors or API keys are involved.
