How it works

Which domain extension should you use? Four questions decide it

Answer what you are building, who it is for, where they are, and what matters most. We score the extensions MailShrine sells against those answers using simple, explained rules: .com for default trust, your country code for local customers, .org for nonprofits, .io and .ai for software, .shop for stores. You get three ranked recommendations with live first-year and renewal prices, and if you type a name we check it on each recommended extension.

How this works

  1. 1

    Score every extension

Each answer adds or removes points: .com for trust, your country code for local reach, .org for nonprofits, .io and .ai for software.

  2. 2

    Keep what we sell

Only extensions in MailShrine's live price list are shown, so every recommendation can be registered right now.

  3. 3

    Check your name

If you give a name, it is checked on the top recommended extensions through our registry API.

Frequently asked questions

Which domain extension is best for a small business?
If your customers are in one country, the country code (.ng, .co.uk, .ca) is the trusted choice and the .com is a close second. If you can afford both, register both and redirect one. Avoid obscure extensions for a business that depends on trust over email.
Is .io or .ai better for a startup?
.io is the long-standing default for developer tools and SaaS, with modest renewal prices. .ai is the clear signal for AI products but renews at a much higher price. If a short .com is available, it still beats both for general audiences.
Does the extension affect SEO?
Google treats generic extensions (.com, .io, .shop, .xyz) equally. Country extensions tell search engines which country you target, which helps local rankings and can limit global ones. Choose for your customers, not for ranking tricks.
Is .com.ng or .ng better in Nigeria?
.com.ng is cheaper and the one most Nigerian businesses use; .ng is shorter and premium-priced. Our guide on .ng vs .com.ng vs .com walks through the trade-offs; this tool shows the live price of each.
What if my name is taken on the recommended extension?
Check the next recommendation, or look at whether the taken name is listed for sale. The Business Name Finder suggests spellings, and the Name Generator builds alternatives, both with live availability.
